Salary: £20,500 for first-year trainees; £23,750 for second-year trainees 

Working pattern:Full time, Fixed Term

We currently have a vacancy for a Trainee Solicitor to join our Public Defence Solicitors’ Offices (PDSO) in Edinburgh.

About us

The Public Defence Solicitors’ Office (PDSO) is a national network of publicly funded solicitors operating from seven offices across Scotland providing criminal legal assistance. Operating as a direct service of the Scottish Legal Aid Board (SLAB), we advise and represent clients, who are eligible for criminal legal aid, in relation to summary and solemn cases at every level and in Scotland’s busiest courts all over the country.

About the role

The job of Trainee Public Defence Solicitor will ultimately match that of a Public Defence Solicitor. The main purpose is to manage criminal cases at all levels.

However, duties and responsibilities will be limited and will vary to a level appropriate to each stage of the traineeship, particularly taking account of limitations as directed by Law Society traineeship rules.
