The Scottish Legal Aid Board (SLAB) is looking for a criminal defence solicitor to join our Solicitor Contact Line (SCL), initially on a 12 month fixed term basis. The role involves providing legal advice via telephone in response to requests from individuals who are due to be interviewed in police custody: also attending police stations throughout Scotland to advise clients face-to-face and/or attending Police interviews.

To be eligible for this role you must be an enrolled solicitor with the Law Society of Scotland, with a full, current, unrestricted practising certificate from the LSS; a current valid driving licence, with immediate access to a car on an as-required basis and insurance cover for business use; an in-depth working knowledge of the criminal justice system and legal aid; and criminal court experience in Scots Law. Based primarily at our headquarters in Edinburgh, coupled with occasional homeworking, you would be working a variable shift pattern covering a 24/7 all year round service. You should be willing to attend police stations across Scotland and elsewhere in the UK, providing individuals with advice. In addition to providing legal advice you will also be required to carry out administrative tasks, desk based legal tasks and other general related tasks as directed by the SCL Team Leader.

In return our benefits package includes a competitive holiday entitlement and a contributory defined benefit pension scheme. Visit www.slab-vacancies.org.uk for further general information and to apply online.
