Due to internal promotions the Civil Legal Assistance Office (CLAO) is looking for three talented social welfare solicitors to join our established network of offices across Scotland. These roles are based in Inverness, Aberdeen and Edinburgh, covering the Highland and Islands (where we are one of the largest group of legal aid practitioners); Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire; and Edinburgh and the Lothians respectively. As part of the CLAO network, you will have opportunities to travel to and practise in courts throughout the location your post serves and sometimes further afield.
All roles involve the provision of targeted social welfare legal services, in line with our current business plan and concentrating on the rights of people who are disadvantaged. We work closely with other advice providers and support agencies as part of our work to triage and refer some cases to other solicitors, advisors or support organisations. Inverness
You will manage a demanding caseload comprising mainly of publicly funded housing law (eviction; mortgage repossession; homelessness; unlawful eviction; disrepair), child protection, and mental health work. You should therefore have relevant experience in at least one of these areas, but ideally all three. A full, clean driving licence is essential for this post.
Aberdeen
You will manage a demanding caseload comprising mainly of publicly funded housing law (eviction; mortgage repossession; homelessness; unlawful eviction; disrepair) and child protection. You should therefore have relevant experience in at least one of these areas, but ideally both. A full, clean driving licence is highly desirable for this post.
Edinburgh
You will manage a demanding caseload comprising mainly of publicly funded housing law (eviction; mortgage repossession; homelessness; unlawful eviction; disrepair) Relevant experience in housing law is therefore essential. A full, clean driving licence is desirable for this post.
All positions additionally require you to hold a full, post-qualified and unrestricted practising certificate from the Law Society of Scotland, excellent technical skills with particular expertise in publicly funded work. You should be highly organised with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to the delivery of social welfare law.
