The Scottish Legal Aid Board (SLAB) is committed to improving the Scottish legal aid system for the legal profession, their clients and the public. Our assessment officers are central to processing legal aid applications and solicitors' accounts accurately and consistently within agreed timescales.

You will assess accounts and process claims received from solicitors for work done on behalf of their clients in accordance with appropriate legislation and procedures and within prescribed timescales and limits of authority. This can involve analysing complex documentation against legal aid legislation. Once trained, you will be responsible for managing your own caseload within a team and you will communicate directly with the legal profession by letter and telephone.

With National Qualifications or equivalent passes in English and a subject that clearly indicates competency in figure work (or equivalent level work experience), you will have administrative and customer service experience, preferably in a legal or office environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to apply appropriate legislation and regulations while working accurately within a set timescale.

In return our benefits package includes a competitive holiday entitlement and a contributory defined benefit pension scheme.

Aptitude tests and interviews will be arranged as soon as possible after the closing date.
