The Civil Legal Assistance Office (CLAO) is looking for a solicitor to head our Aberdeen office who will manage a small team of solicitors as well as carry a caseload.

Concentrating on the rights of people who are disadvantaged our Aberdeen office represents people in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. We work closely with other advice providers and support agencies as part of our work to triage and refer some cases to other solicitors, advisors or support organisations. Further information on what we do within our Aberdeen office and across Scotland generally can be found at www.clao.org.uk.

You and your team will carry a demanding caseload comprised mainly of Children’s cases in the courts and Children’s hearings and publicly funded housing law (repossession; homelessness; unlawful eviction; disrepair).

With a full, unrestricted practising certificate from the Law Society of Scotland and a full, clean driving licence, you will have solid experience in children’s public law and housing law; and excellent technical skills with particular expertise in publicly funded work. You will also be highly organised and an effective leader with strong people management skills, good interpersonal skills and the ability to manage financial procedures.

In return our benefits package includes a competitive holiday entitlement and a contributory defined benefit pension scheme. Relocation expenses may also be available in some circumstances. Known as “the granite city” Aberdeen is Scotland’s 3rd largest city. With local schools, colleges and two universities, convenient transport links to other major centres in Scotland and further afield the city affords the opportunity for an excellent work/life balance: as well as the availability of a range of social and cultural facilities, it offers opportunities to explore the outdoors, including a city beach and easily accessible beautiful surrounding countryside.

Interviews may be held at short notice after the closing date, likely in week beginning 28 January.
