Salary:£36,000 - £41,880

Working pattern:Full time, Permanent

Location:Inverness

Closing date:21 January 2019 at midnight

The Civil Legal Assistance Office (CLAO) is looking for a talented social welfare solicitor to join our established specialist team in Inverness.

We are the largest group of legal aid practitioners in the Highlands. Concentrating on the rights of people who are disadvantaged we represent clients in Highland, Moray, Western Isles, Orkney and Shetlands. We work closely with other advice providers and support agencies as part of our work to triage and refer some cases to other solicitors, advisors or support organisations. Further information on what we do within our Inverness office and across Scotland generally can be found at www.clao.org.uk.

Professionally the local bar is friendly and welcoming. As part of our team you will have opportunities to travel to and practise in courts throughout the Highlands and Islands. You will manage a demanding caseload comprised of publicly funded housing law (repossession; homelessness; unlawful eviction; disrepairs) and some child protection and mental health work.

With a full, post-qualified and unrestricted practising certificate from the Law Society of Scotland and a full, clean driving licence, you will have solid experience in Housing Law; and excellent technical skills with particular expertise in publicly funded work. You should be highly organised with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to the delivery of social welfare law. Additional experience in child protection and mental health law would be highly advantageous.

In return our benefits package includes a competitive holiday entitlement and a contributory defined benefit pension scheme. Relocation expenses may also be available in some circumstances. As a growing city with local schools and further education facilities, convenient transport links to other major centres in Scotland and further afield, Inverness provides city amenities and lifestyle with the opportunity for excellent work/life balance amid fantastic Highland landscapes and a rich history: a range of social and cultural facilities are immediately to hand, with outdoor sports and activities available throughout the area.

Interviews may be held at short notice after the closing date, likely in week beginning 28 January.
