The Public Defence Solicitors’ Office (PDSO) provides high quality criminal legal defence services in all of the criminal courts in Scotland. We are looking for a Head of Office to lead a small team of solicitors within Inverness and the surrounding area.
You will ensure that the PDSO provides an excellent public service and is highly rated by its clients throughout Scotland. The role encompasses accountabilities in respect of work as both a manager and as a solicitor, involving the management of the legal staff in the office and caseload within the context of the wider PDSO network.
With a full, post-qualified and unrestricted practising certificate from the Law Society of Scotland, you will have detailed knowledge of the Criminal Justice System and the legal aid legislation, with highly developed skills as a criminal court practitioner. You must have sound interpersonal, communications and management skills, including the ability to manage solicitors through a changing criminal justice environment and the knowledge/skills to successfully manage budgets in a challenging fiscal landscape. As you will be required to travel frequently to a number of courts you must have a full current driving license.
